The Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Grand Coronation Night!

The beauties who will represent the country in various international beauty pageants for the year 2014.

The Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Coronation Night is truly a celebration of the Filipina beauty. Everyone would consider this year’s competition to be the toughest one. A lot of beautiful women joined and each one deserves a title, if only that’s possible.

But March 30, 2014 marks a beautiful beginning and end. An end of the reign of the four beauty queens who proudly and successfully represented the country in four significant beauty pageants, namely, Ariella Arida, who finished 4th in Miss Universe 2013, Bea Rose Santiago who took home the Miss International 2013 crown, Joanna Datul who was named first Miss Supranational 2013 and Cindy Miranda who finished as a semi-finalist in Miss Tourism 2013. At the same time, it was also the night of a new beginning for another set of ladies who were deemed best to represent the country in five prestigious beauty pageants in the world. Yes, five crowns were given to well deserving beauty queens.

The coronation night was hosted by Anne Curtis and Xian Lim, together with Miss Philippines Universe titlists in the last four years, Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup-Lee and Janine Tugonon. The event was held  at the Smart Araneta Colliseum.

Just after the candidates’ production number, a set of minor awards were given to ladies who did pretty well in various pre-pageant competitions.

The Panel of Judges for the night includes: Jeron Teng, Adam Laker, Carlo Katigbak, Hon. William Christopher, Gregory Domingo, Kevin Tan, Korina Sanchez, Cory Vidanes, Mexican Ambassador Julio Camarena, Sen. Sonny Angara, and Miss Universe 2013 Maria Gabriela Isler.

The Swimsuit round marked the beginning of the night’s competition. With the theme Philippine Fiesta, the candidates were divided into two batches featuring the colorful fiestas celebrated in the country. At dahil feeling expert ako, I made a list of those I think stoodout during this round:

Batch 1 (Binibini #1 - #20): Parul Shah, Pia Wurtzbach, Kris Tiffany Janson, and Liezl Ramos.

Batch 2 (Binibini #21 - #40): Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, MJ Lastimosa, Hannah Ruth Sison, Yvette Santiago, and Ladylyn Riva.

I have to be very honest though, the swimsuit worn by the candidates isn’t very appealing considering the cut and colors used. :(

Also with the Long Gown competition which followed right after. There wasn’t any dress that I can say was super stunning. But I liked Janine Asanion's.

These were my standouts during the Long Gown competition: Parul Shah, Pia Wurtzbach, Emma Tiglao, MJ Lastimosa, Hannah Sison, and Gabrielle Tilokani. They stood out in terms of their walk, gracefulness and elegance. Emma Tiglao's overall look was my favorite!

Sadly, none from my standout list got the Best in Long Gown which went to Binibini #22 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti. The Best in Swimsuit was awarded to Binibini #25 MJ Lastimosa.

2nd set of special awards! (from L-R) Best in Swimsuit MJ Lastimosa, She's So Jag & Miss Philippine Airlines Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Creamsilk Yvethe Santiago and Best in Long Gown Bianca Guidotti.

The announcement of the 15 Semi-finalists was a big moment. I was very excited to know who will make it to the cut:

The Top 15 Finalists

Top 15 Finalists:
Binibini #11 Laura Lehmann, Binibini #1 Julian Aurine Flores, Binibini #22 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, Binibini #3 Joanna Angelica Romero, Binibini #25 MJ Lastimosa, Binibini #8 Pia Wurtzbach, Binibini #4 Parul Shah, Binibini #23 Nichole Manalo, Binibini #16 Zahara Mae Soriano, Binibini #35 Yvethe Santiago, Binibini #14 Emma Tiglao, Binibini #20 Kenneth Santiago, Binibini #13 Kris Tiffany Janson, Binibini #27 Hannah Ruth Sison, and Binibini #19 Mae Liezl Ramos

If you're following my blog, you’d remember that I named 15 of my early favorites in the competition then made a follow-up list just 2 weeks ago with a new one, my official list of favorites (may nalalaman pa akong ‘official’ ha ha).

Anyways, I’m very happy eight of my 10 favorites made it to the semi finals: Kris Tiffany Janson, Parul Shah, Yvethe Santiago, MJ Lastimosa, Liezl Ramos, Pia Wurtzbach, Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, and Emma Tiglao. (Whatever happened to Diana Arevalo who was also one of the crowd favorites, I don’t know!)

Two from my early favorites list were also in the Top 15 namely, Laura Lehmann and Hannah Ruth Sison.

It’s usually the Long Gown competition that I highly anticipate, but due to my disappointment with the gowns, nagfocus na lang ako sa Question and Answer.

I was impressed during the question and answer. I love the answers of Laura Lehmann, MJ Lastimosa, Pia Wurtzbach, Parul Shah, Yvethe Santiago, Emma Tiglao, Kris Tiffany Janson and Hannah Sison’s answers.

The night was concluded with a news set of Binibinis all set to represent the country in five international beauty competitions:

The First and Second Runner-up, Laura Victoria Lehmann and Hannah Ruth Sison respectively.

I wonder if Laura Lehmann answered with one of the local cities in the country instead of Amsterdam… and Pia Wurtzbach answered the question in English, could that affect the final decision of the judges? Just a thought (Hmmmm). Also, I am not convinced with Bianca Guidotti winning one of the titles that's if I were to base it with her answer and the way she answered the question (but she's one of my favorites throughout the competition, nonetheless).

Crowning moments!

In the end, it was MJ Lastimosa's night!

Crowning Moment! With Miss Universe 2013 Gabriella Isler, Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ariella Arida along pass on the crown to Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa

Now that we have a new set of beauty queens, the least that we can do is to support them in representing our country this year! CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of Bb. Pilipinas 2014 for a job well done!
