PAGEANT: Philippines bags first Miss World crown

All hail to the new queen! The newly crowned Miss World 2013, Megan Young!

Miss Philippines Megan Young tops this year's Miss World besting 126 other beautiful women from around the world. Behind her are Miss France and Miss Ghana who finished 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

Amidst protests from Muslim extremist groups in Indonesia, the 63rd Miss World pageant pushed through with its closing ceremonies in Nusa Dua in southern Bali, a predominantly Hindu resort island in Indonesia.

Earlier in the competition, Miss World 2013 candidates competed with each other in several challenge events. Scores were given to each of them and the 10 with the highest scores will advance through the competition.

Philippines' bet, Megan Young, got the top spot with the highest score from various challenges along with 9 other candidates to advance in the competition.

Megan Young wore this Francis Libiran dress throughout the competition.

The 10 semi-finalists with the highest challenge scores: (1) Miss Philippines (2) Miss Brazil (3) Miss Australia (4) Miss France (5) Miss Nepal (6) Miss England (7) Miss Indonesia (8) Miss Spain (9) Miss Jamaica (10) Miss Ghana

From 10 finalists, it was narrowed down to only five candidates for the final stage in the competition which is the question and answer.

5 finalists in no particular order: (1) Miss France (2) Miss Philippines (3) Miss Ghana (4) Miss Brazil (5) Miss Spain

A 6th candidate with the highest number of votes from the people ("Peoples' Choice) was instantly included into the lineup. This year, Miss Gibraltar is the People's Choice Awardee, thus a guaranteed spot for her in the semi-finals.

Before the winners were announced, the six candidates were asked to answer in no more than 30 seconds why they deserve to be Miss World.

In the end, it was Miss Philippines' answer that gave her way to be named 'the most beautiful woman in the world' and the first Filipina to win the title.

Her winning answer:

The much coveted Miss World crown was handed to her by outgoing Miss World 2012 winner Wenxai Yu of Peoples' Republic of China.
